There’s something so special about photographing a family in that quiet stretch of time before their baby arrives. When Jessika reached out and trusted me to capture her maternity session, I felt genuinely honored. This season of waiting—of imagining what life will look like in just a few short weeks—is always one of my favorites to document.
We met at Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park, a spot that always feels peaceful no matter the time of year. Even though it was the middle of the Texas summer, the weather surprised us with a soft breeze and a sunset that wrapped everything in warm, golden light. It was the kind of evening that felt made for slow walks, gentle moments, and photos that almost took themselves.

Jessika looked absolutely beautiful—glowing in that effortless, grounded way that comes from knowing your family is about to grow. And little Dean, only three years old, was the sweetest big brother. He ran around with that perfect mix of curiosity and excitement, always coming back to check on his mom or touch her belly, as if reminding himself that yes, there really was a baby sister in there. Capturing his joy and tenderness was one of my favorite parts of the whole session. Those expressions—wide-eyed, proud, full of heart—are the ones that become family treasures.
What I loved most about their session was how natural everything felt. Nothing forced, nothing overly posed—just a family enjoying an evening together, holding onto these last days as a family of three. We wandered by the lake, paused whenever Dean found something “important” to show us, and let the setting sun do its magical thing. The photos we created feel exactly like that night: warm, relaxed, and full of love.
And the sweetest part of this story? Only a few weeks later, I got to see them again—this time in their home—to welcome baby Fae Delilah. Meeting their tiny girl after watching Jessika carry her felt like such a full-circle moment. Dean was instantly smitten, and Jessika held her with the same softness she carried during her maternity session.
