If you’re wondering whether you can include your dog in your photos, the answer is yes! As an Austin family photographer, I love when families bring their furry friends along. Your pup is part of your story, and they absolutely deserve to be included.

Why You Should Include Your Dog In Your Photos

Adding your pup in your Austin family photos can often make the session feel more personal. Furry friends bring such energy, playfulness, and joy to your family portraits. Plus, in a dog-friendly city like Austin, pets are definitely considered family members. As such, they too deserve to be in the photos!

When To Add A Pet In Your Austin Family Photos

As a family photographer, my clients ask me “Will my dog be in every photo?”. The answer is no. In fact, I always recommend starting with your family shots first. Once we capture the main portraits, we can bring your dog into the frame. This way, we can ensure you have classic photos as well as some playful ones with your fur baby.

What If My Dog Doesn’t Sit Still?

I often say dogs can be just like toddlers. They play by their own rules! As a photographer with tons of experience photographing young children, I know that flexibility is key. And the same applies to your pups.

I understand that you may worry about your dog’s energy. But don’t stress! Your dog does not need to sit perfectly for great photos. We will capture candid, playful moments that show your dog’s personality. Often, those images end up being family favorites.

How To Prepare for Photos With A Family Pet

As an Austin family photographer, I do not have many “rules” for my clients. However, there is one rule that can’t be broken when incorporating a pet in your outdoor photo session. You do need to bring a leash with you and ensure that your dog is kept on leash at all times. A lot of Austin parks actually require it, and this ensures that we stay compliant.

I also strongly recommend bringing treats or even a favorite toy. These small items help when it’s time to include your pup to get more cooperation. Lastly, going for a walk before the session can also help your dog feel calmer for the photos.

Final Thoughts on Including Your Dog in Your Austin Photo Session

Your family session should reflect your life exactly as it is right now. If that includes a wagging tail, then let’s make it happen. Dogs are more than pets; they’re family. And I can’t wait to capture these fun times for you!
