What is an in-home Maternity Model Call?

I recently had the pleasure to meet Melissa and her sweet family for their in-home maternity model call in Leander, TX. While Melissa opted out of maternity photos with her first born, she did not hesitate this second time around.

And what better way to try out professional photos than with a maternity model call?

If unfamiliar with the terms, a model call is equivalent to a styled shoot initiated by the photographer. From outfit and location choices, to deciding on a date and time, the photographer will guide every detail according to their vision. As a participant, it’s a great way to be introduced to a photographer, get to know them, and experience working with them. And the best part? Your photographer will typically include a few complimentary images as a thank-you gift.

In-home Maternity Model Call with a Toddler Boy

Are you dreading the idea of professional photos with your toddler? As a current toddler mom, I totally get it! Toddlerhood, although full of sweet discoveries, can also be exhausting. Add to this growing a new baby, and I can only imagine how you’re feeling!

But let me tell you a secret – your toddler can act like a toddler, and your maternity photos can still turn out beautiful. That’s right – two truths can be true :). I keep my sessions relaxed and laid back, especially when working with young children. And I promise you, as irritating as it may feel, it’s ok if your toddler won’t sit still and say “cheese” to the camera. In fact, it’s perfectly normal and expected.

With little Xavier, his parents tried all their tricks to hopefully get their little boy to cooperate. The tablet, the TV, the bribes…Nothing worked! And guess what else? We made it work anyway. Instead of begging him to sit on the couch and smile, we gave him toys and let him play. Then, I encouraged his mom and dad to simply interact with him, make him laugh, do tickle fights. And there we had them – genuine, candid smiles. The best kind of smiles!

The Perfect Nursery for Maternity Pictures

As a girl mom, the minute I stepped into Melissa’s baby girl’s nursery my eyes were sparkling. The whimsical wall paper, the all-pink walls, the golden bows – the nursery of every girl mama’s dreams.

Melissa perfectly hand-picked each detail to curate the most princess-like room for her sweet girl. As a maternity photographer, I could not have been more excited to shoot in such an exquisite scene.
