Fortunately, Fall in Austin brings cooler weather, even if dramatic leaf changes are rare. Because of that, it’s the perfect season to refresh your family photos.

As an Austin family photographer, I know how important choosing the right location for your photos is. The right backdrop is a huge factor in helping me create those timeless, light and airy images my clients love.

And that’s why I’m sharing with you my 3 best photo locations in Austin for beautiful Fall family pictures.

Photo Location #1: Brushy Creek Lake Park (Cedar Park)

Whether it’s Fall or Spring, Brushy Creek Lake Park is always at the top of my list. With its wide, open field of golden grass, it’s perfect for little ones to run and explore. Plus, the shaded trails and gorgeous lake make a beautiful backdrop for light and airy photos. Together, it all adds up to a setting that feels calm and natural.

For the best glow, I love photographing families here about one to two hours before sunset.

Photo Location #2: Katherine Fleischer Park (North Austin)

Located in the Wells Branch area, Katherine Fleischer Park is a families’ favorite for an easy morning walk. With lots of shaded parts, it is also a great option for morning family photos. Plus, I have found the perfect little spot for the young kiddos. The open field of grass, the quaint little bridge, and the shaded path, also allow for a ton of variety in your photo gallery. Kids especially LOVE spending time playing on the bridge. And that is when we get to capture the most genuine smiles.

Photo Location #3: Bull Creek District Park (Central Austin)

Talk about a breathtaking scenery! To the families who love nature – this is THE spot! With the clear water, limestone cliffs, and winding trails, Bull Creek offers it all. And, you may even be able to dip your toes in the water for some family fun. Evenings are ideal for a photo session in this location to capture the gorgeous golden light.

Note: If you have little ones, keep in mind that they may need a bit of help getting down to the water area. That is because the paths can be a bit steep and narrow.

Bonus Photo Location: Your Home!

Does the idea of getting everyone dressed, packing up the snacks, and getting everyone in the car sound more chaotic than enjoyable? I get it! But you actually do not have to go far to capture your family’s photos. In fact, your home can actually be the perfect setting. Your little ones are in a familiar environment, and snacks are right there in the pantry. As a result, you’ll enjoy a stress-free, relaxed session in the comfort of your own home.
